Boxers are amont the best strikers in the world. Even Thai boxers and MMAists will tell you (maybe not all the thai boxers in the ring) that most of what you throw in a fight, striking wise, are hands. Boxers have the best hands for sure, they taught Thai Boxers a couple things in the past.

thailand actually has some decent boxers. If I remember correctly, one of them took home a medal in the olympics last year. On the average though, a real thai boxer - not someone who trained thai boxing in the west - doesn't punch all that much, from what I've seen. Boxers definitely have awesome hands though.

and you are right i have a couple DVDs of thai boxers in thailand and they dont throw as many hands as western thaiboxers do although they make up for it and more with there great elbows.

Boxing skills can make a world of a difference especially when applied with other martial art techniques, joint locks for example are sure a hell of a lot easier to obtain after delivering a few hard strikes to the head and body, the bobbing and weaving techniques are good for the sport of boxing, I dont find bobbing and weaving very usefull for other ring sports or self defense (its good to know and can be used) but slipping punches is a technique that I find very usefull.

I actually try to start each of my fighters off in a boxing bout before enteringthe Kicboxing ring or NHB ring. Like someone said in this topic already if you get the chance to hope in the ring with a boxer go for it you will learn a lot.

A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
