Cyr
Has anyone here ever attended a Kendo dojo? I was just curious, because I might be getting it mixed up with another Weapon art. . . Is Kendo the appropriate term, or is there another name for it? Thanks
WudangDragon
another name for kendo is Kenjutso which litterally means sword art.this is just me, but i think kenjutso is when u learn with a real sword (usually katana or wakizashi type blades since its a japanese art) and in kendo u learn with a shinai (a wooden sword).my kendo/kenjutso is limited, but i learned the little i know with a shinai "We follow the World,The World follows Heaven,Heaven follows Tao,Tao follows the way things are." Shorin Ryuu
KenjutsU is the art of learning how to fight with a drawn Japanese sword (wooden or otherwise or both).Kendo is the art of learning how to fight with a Japanese bamboo practice sword (shinai) and is more sport-oriented in general. Some sword principles will carry over from kendo into kenjutsu, other things will not.Iaido/Iaijutsu (depending on the emphasis in some ways) is the art of drawing the sword as a strike in and of itself. Once the sword is drawn, it will have the same principles as kenjutsu. It just tends to put a lot of emphasis on the actual drawing for speed purposes (practicality back then). Hills
Just so everyone knows, Junjutsu include Ken (sword), Jo (staff) and Te (empty Hand). Must Dojo's will teach Iai and Kendo as well. The Te portion of Kenjutsu is what Aikido (spelling?) is based most on. While Aikido is more gentle, Kenjutsu is usually much more damaging, with moves designed to be executed as easy or easier than Aikido, and which cause much more damage. It is a combat art, although it does share many principals with Aikido. It is the "Parent" art. "To win without fighting is best"-Sun Tzu
Anbu Alex
Kenjutsu and Iado are basically war arts of the Samurai swords and in Kenjutsu theyll usally teach how to use swords other than the Katana such as the Tachi Iado is basically teahing a person how to draw a sword either quick or from different positions Kendo was created later on after theMenji period because swords were becoming outlawed so they turned it to a sport Kendo is more hitting Kenjutsu is more cutting White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
