Sam Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Whenever i spar my instructor, he always goes in pretty heavy when we're not wearing sparring gear, but not through lack of control, its just an agreement we have sort of.... come of bumped and bruised a lot though.
cheeks Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 i relish the hard beatings, it shows just how far i have to go, and i look forward to sparring my instructor If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread. Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.
Sam Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 I agree completely - just like doing things properly, sepcially since TKD gets so much stick for being either light contact - or no hands... neither of which we do.
Atalanta071 Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 I haven't really gone through a "beating" yet... I suppose you could count the first time I sparred in our adult class. Let's just say I was WAY to used to sparring the little kids. My green belt friend thankfully didn't show me any mercy. Oh, the time I went to an all-styles tournament didn't go too well... Can't we all just get along?!I learn to fight so I don't have to.
pittbullJudoka Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 (edited) The first beating I took was in the first dojo I trained in it came by way of the Sensie during a belt test. After picking my bloody and bruised body up off the deck he welcomed me to upper belt fighting. The most recent beating was when I sparred with a retire kickboxer who held a world title.talk about hurting the next morning. solar_kid Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 When I was a white belt, I had the misfortune to face a black belt who was getting ready to compete in a tournament. He'd just finished sparring some other black belts, and I think he was just keyed up. Normally, everyone in the dojo is appropriately gentle with beginners, but my partner forgot for a moment and connected with my ribs enough to break one. Sensei rebuked him to take it easy.Ironically, I was so focused on sparring that I didn't suspect that I'd had my rib broken until after we finished sparring. ----Hmm. Hello. This is the floor. How did I get here?
