darkness Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 darkness<do you mean naihanchi?as in naihanchi shodan, nidan, and sandan?I just checked the spelling and it is "Naihanchin", so I dunno." My sensai says that it means something like 'sideways fighting'
jarrettmeyer Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I am working on Pinan Nidan. Of the first 3 Pinans, I have to know Nidan for yellow; Nidan and Shodan for orange; and Nidan, Shodan, and Sandan for green. That includes bunkai for the listed kata. Kinson Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 In my style:White: taikioku shodan, nidan, sandan, hein shodanYellow: hein nidan, gedan borai gedan zizuki, gedan borai gedan zizuki hidori (sp.)....I'm ranked white because I coincidentally missed the senior instructor's last few visits to the club at the university I attend, and although the club is sometimes taught by a brown belt, he does not have the authority to promote me. So for the last couple of classes before I came back home he would make me do all the white belt katas, harp on me a bit to fix very specific things, then work on me with yellow belt katas. Hein Nidan is awesome. But it's kind of nice to be a white belt for the summer. I can really focus on technique for the most basic kihon. And it's a good ego killer too The Hidy Ochiai Foundation: http://www.hidyochiai.org/
emma Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I am doing Heian Godan (I'm a purple belt) at the moment and I am not looking forward to the high jumps, twist and turns etcIn my karate club which as recently joined a world karate academy. Adults now do single grade ie single purple/brown/ and higher grade (brown and red)But surely if an adult is really really good at karate do they need to single grade aswell.

Super_Coo Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Since my yellow belt I've been learning Heidan Shodan.
emma Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) According to the uk karate belt system, heian sandan (yellow) is a bit like heian Godan (purple) exept its a bit more difficult and different moves, for instance kihon (white) is a bit like taikyoku shodan (blue) and heian shodan (orange), and heian nidan (red) is a bit like heian yondan (green)I remember all the katas like this...white and blue belt kata- to many turnsOrange belt kata- I love the hammer fist/throwred belt Kata- I love the outar blocksyellow belt kata- reminds me of losing my temper or being angry green belt kata- I love doing the sword in the airpurple belt kata- Going across the room alotAnother way of remembering all the coloured belts is like this... using food etcwhite- milkblue- blueberrysorange- orangesRed- strawberrysYellow- custardgreen- saladpurple- ribenabrown- chocolatebrown and red/ higher grade- strawberrys and chocolateblack- liquenceI hope this helps if anyone is having trouble trying to remember everything about coloured belts and katas, in a way its helped me too Edited August 20, 2005 by emma
