papaschtroumpf
I think grappling/ground fighting is more important than weapons (after all, you don't carry a sai around in case of emergency, or do you?). I guess you could use a pipe or broomstick as a bo like they do in some movies weapons are fun though.
kitsune_no_tama
hi strumppfffffff!actually, i do carry a keychain pike in case of emergencies. when i do my morning exercise i take my sais with me in case i get in a scuffle(i live in a bad neighborhood. dont want to take any chances) "Karate is an art. It must be regarded as such with its entirety of philosophical thought and development of the mind in harmony with the body. If it isn't thought of this way it is valueless. It is like eating only the bitter skin of the apple while leaving the sweet inner meat untasted. It is this crucial premise that is being overlooked today, and if the tide is not turned, I must predict the demise of the art. ZR440
It's kinda difficult to defend against weapons if you don't practice with them. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

JusticeZero
Dunno. I consider fighting from prone and seated positions to be vital, too, and you didn't mention those. Those haven't really hit the imagination of most MAists, I suppose. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
pineapple
Knowledge of weapons makes a martial artist more well rounded. I have a preference for practical weapons, however any type of weapon training is good for your coordination and strengthening of your grip.I don't carry any sais, nunchakus, or bos with me , however the basic swings and pokes that are taught with these weapons can be done with a stick, club, or pipe.
