Aodhan Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 One question: Why?It's a personal challenge. It is going to take a lot of discipline and sacrifice, and at the other end, I will hopefully be a better person, with a greater understanding for things that I currently have no experience with. That's what it is all about for me. UpTheIrons Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 The big problem I have with the aforementioned test: there is nothing standardized. The nice thing about having an organization test (whether WTF, ITF, ATA etc.) is that everyone knows what the requirements are and what is expected of them. This is what you have to be able to do, and you either can or cannot. Pass or no pass. You start developing your own personal test, and I have no way of knowing whether you should pass or not because it doesn't fit into the standardized accepted framework. Same as school. The teacher passes the same test out to everyone. You either know the answers or you don't. Now, if I want to see your comprehention level and thought processes at work, I can give an essay test that forces you to think and express yourself. But nobody makes up their own test Queen Padme: "So this is how Democracy dies-with thunderous applause."Annikin Skywalker: "You're either with me or against me!"Obi-won Kenobi: "That is the Way of the Sith!"
Aodhan Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 to see your comprehention level and thought processes at work, I can give an essay test that forces you to think and express yourself. But nobody makes up their own testWhy not? A couple of my college classes had us make up our own tests. The teacher went through and approved them, and at midterm time, passed them out randomly. There were some bugger questions on mine! Our instructor will approve our tests. At a minimum, you have to do at least as much as you normally would at a testing. I am choosing to do a lot more. I know what it will take to stretch myself, and am designing the test with that in mind.As an exercise, you might let some of your senior students design their own testing. The results might surprise you. ranger1100ky Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 I reviewed the Ultimate Black Belt test website quite a while back...It's a very good concept.. a good 'be your very best' type exercise... The day may come, where I elect to take that test on... (I've got to first get into some kind of shape, and get all the TKD rust out of my body... before I will be in a position to concern myself with such a thing...)(Gotta learn to walk again, before I can run)But the test looks like fun to me... Mr. Mike Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Heidi, next time you talk to Mr. Callos, you should mention just how much stir he created. Do you think he imagined this? I mean, he probably thought it was going to be a good idea, but this...this is really remarkable. Just thinking aloud here. Sam Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Creating your own tests [if your honest with yourself] i believe can work - you know your own problems [specially after training for a long time] better than anyone...
Aodhan Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Creating your own tests [if your honest with yourself] i believe can work - you know your own problems [specially after training for a long time] better than anyone...There is another factor working here as well. Very few people who "skate by" on things like testings, etc. will join a group like this. I mean, it's a year committment, and it's not the easiest thing in the world to stick to and finish. The kind of people that join something like this are just the kind of masochists that will kill themselves in a test they designed themselves. Sam Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Yeha - though that wouldnt be that funny - its amazing how hard people can drive themselves when given an opportunity to do so and constant encouragement; you can really find out a lot about yourself as well.
