TKD_McGee Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 I couldn't agree more with Bon. 13 is the best age to start. Your muscles are starting to develop, and what better way to have them conditioned for 5 years. Just as long as you dont get a belt complex, or you are too ****y. 30lbs is no problem, when you enter your late teenage years the weight should burn off. You shouldn't be in a class with little kids.. try to find a professional school that treats its students with quality. Especially for the price you are going to be paying for years. Do unto others, as they done to you.
dreamer38f Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 I started formal MA training at 39. In our adult class we have 14 year olds to a 63 year old. As all the others have said, don't worry bout weight, flexability, etc...it will all come as you continue your MA journey. Good luck in which ever art you choose If you think you can't, then you must. If you must, you will.
ronryu Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 Welcome .. 13 is a good age to start actually I dont teach anyone under that age in part to the fact that most people not all but most under 13 are there to play and not learn . As far as a styole you will get a million answetrs on what is bes but the fact is you have to choose that suits you ( a school chooses you , you do not choose the school ) . The weight will come off soon after you start jsut remember to stick wiht it most traditional schools are tough but you will feel the gratifacation when you start to gain in knowledge . Good luck on your quest. Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo
