ShotokanKid Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Has anybody who has taken or seen a shotokan nidan test tell me about it? I have to test in about a year and I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do. Or is it like a state test: you can't study for it? "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

cheeks Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 yep it depends on where you train, ask your instructor, he will tell you what you need If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread. Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.

You are studying for it every time you practice. If you need to know something for the test they will tell you.One year is a long way off and really you don't "have" to test. A blackbelt is not the beginning,it's a piece of cloth, that's all.
ninjanurse Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 From my experience with shotokan, you are testing every day...your nidan test started the day you took your first class. The technical requirements will be taught in class as sensei sees fit, the rest is on you. papaschtroumpf Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 The ones I've seen looked amazingly line Shodan testing.I guess the examiner was mostly lookinf or signs of more advanced mastery, especially in exercizing control. The results weren't announced until the week after so I can't know for sure, but a lot of people thought one guy was going to fail because he nailed his opponent in the head with a round house kick. It looked beautiful and powerful but he didn't show that he could control the power of the kick.As everyone else said, ask your sensei
