* being short, i have a habit of running into my sparring partner's attacks

* fighting in a linear fashion

* having my back foot on an angle, rather than toe pointing forward

* not keeping my lead hand up

* not keeping a square stance to my opponent - i often find myself turned side on to my sparring partner

* not keeping my stance 'solid' in terms of isometric tension

i'm pretty new to muay thai so my main problem is not knowing any combinations. i know a few but haven't yet worked out when's the best time to use them!

I was never into the tournament sparring type, but Sifu used to force me to spar against the people our school was sending to compete.

I took the time to try out some concepts I picked up from other Martial Arts on these unsuspecting students, hehe. I mess with the other students, if its a tall guy, I wait for that kick and then boom lower my stance and come right in. Throw some punches and then go behind them.

They say I make mistakes like, always fighting on one stance, never putting my hands up.

I can tell you what common mistakes other people make. They try this airial stuff, spinning punches, and kicks. I'm not allowed to sweep them, but as soon as they land just start smacking the crap outta them.

I don't do that anymore though, it gives you too many bad habits.

I own you.

If your Kata and Basics are good, your sparring should also be good.

I disagree with this comment i am ranked for form and when i competed in basics as a white belt i placed 2nd by a hundreth of a point in a group of 14. But yet i am terrible at sparring.

This thread made me realize I'm going to miss sparring this Tuesday, to help my GF with an essay outline. Damn university work...

I am only a yellow belt, but I get to spar with everybody at the school. I see a lot of people fighting far too linearly. I've sidestepped a few blue belts already. :P

The one mistake I hate most of all, lack of control. I'm still nursing my chest from a sidekick three weeks ago. The way I see it, it was both his mistake and mine. The guy kicks like a horse.

A lot of the beginners love to get all tangled up, and just stand there trading blows. When you're trying to pull your punches that doesn't hurt, but in the street or a competition? Heh

I can't wait till may to start sparring. I know i'm gonna get beat up a lot, but I think sparring with higher ranking people will help me.
