Any of you guys thought about this type of training?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking the other day about other ways of training that I haven't seen before, and it came to me. What about training as a group of 2 or more people together defending themselves against either one person or more than that, as in training to defend yourselves as a team. Hate to have this kind of refference but, kind of like in the movies how 2 or 3 guys have to take out a larger group of guys and use team work, having one man do a technique on an opponent and having a partner of his back him up with another technique (stuff like that), to subdue them all or knock them all out.

Granted you wouldn't train nowadays in a group of say 3 guys to destroy one man out of control, but what about training to be able to subdue him so as to make it so he can't hurt someone or himself?

The police train to function as a group to subdue / incapacitate people in the UK - ratherh than just on their own.

you always notice they immediately split up; surround., adn then take the guy to the floor where they basically restrain them to stop them hurting him/her self or them :D

That the sort of thing? Thats the only immediate "subdue" training that comes to mind with groups working together.... i dont know of any that works for a group against a larger group?

I know this is not the same as you are referring to but 2 on one sparring has a similar feel. However, it is not done enough at my school to be a real training tool. It is true that while in law enforcement we did train for this kind of scenario in actuality it usually ended up one-on-one anyway (when dealing with a single subject). Some guys just have to stand there and watch you do all the work  !

I believe that there is a Wudang kung fu form that is practised by something like five or eight people (I am not sure) against numerous exponents. I saw the performance of this form in a documentary about the Wudang Temple.

Use your time on an art that is worthwhile and not on a dozen irrelevant "ways".

It's a lot like what police train for. Not necessarily knock out but to subdue someone until authorities came, because if it were one on one the person trying to subude someone who's dangerous would have a higher risk of getting hurt than having 1 or 2 other guys with him. (BTW ladies, when I say "him" "he" or male terms for someone, I really mean a person of any sex)

You'd be amazed how many people critisize me for using male terms as opposed to unisex ones when talking about humans in general. I just like using the male terms cause it's easier.

We do one on two and one on three sparring but never tag team lol

When I train, I like to train real scenarios. The odds are already against me that I would ever need to use my martial arts training in real life. I can only image that my odds of winning the lotto or being struck by lightning are better than having one of my martial arts buddies with me when/if I got into a conflict.
