Meguro Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 You start out with a white belt. Work real hard to get it black. Once it's black, you work even harder to get it white again.

cheeks Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Shaolin Chuen-northern style. And I agree with you about exploring other arts at this level. My theory is that after Black Belt the styles blend into one. It is only the journey from the bottom of the mountain that is different-each path unique. very true, when you get down to it, a punch is a punch, a kick is a kick no matter which style you do. If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread. Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.
Uechi Kid Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Black belt is where the real training begins. More Practice
SANCHIN31 Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Black belt is where the real training begins. Yes, a blackbelt is just a good student. Shodan means first rank,so you could say that before that you had no rank. A blackbelt is not the beginning,it's a piece of cloth, that's all.
cheeks Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Black belt is where the real training begins.umm, i thought that real training began when you were white belt, and that black belt represents an advanced student, ie someone who is good technically but has more to learn.. If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread. Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.

ninjanurse Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 A small interjection here....in most systems a black belt symbolizes that you are now worthy to be a student. The kyu's are just tryouts! Bleeding Lion Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 so what else is there...?How bout you get there and let me know? We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence thus, is not an act, but a habit. --- Aristotle
