Is it standard for KSW practioners to work on only one side of the body for grabbing techniques or does that change as you progress? I did not see any of the other students using the other side of their body and I was never shown anything that made me switch hands or foot positions. Was just wondering.

Thanks,

When we start sometimes depends on the school.

I'm at 2nd dahn and testing for 3rd. I have to perform every technique, form and weapon on both sides.

Typically we wait until at least 1st dahn before training both sides.

Back in Knoxville, IL, you'll see techniques practiced every once in awhile on both sides. You will definitely find techniques being tried on both sides at testings.... so most of the students that have been around awhile will start practicing both sides before testing, just so they feel a little more comfortable doing them on both sides.

In my school, its not something we test, but its something people practice by themselves. Its something you need to know, but we train it on one side for simpification, and due to lack of time (god would I love to increase minimum years to get black belt to 8 years).
