But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
Grenadier Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 If you're looking for a premium bokken that will last you a long time, Crane Mountain:http://www.crane-mountain.com/index.htmYou may want to read about the selection of the correct wood:http://www.crane-mountain.com/index_Page699.htmI have one made of Brazilian cherry (jatoba), and it has survived many bokken to bokken contract drills, without any problems, whereas some of the fellow classmates have had to go through the miseries of their cheap red oak ones breaking. I don't swing agressively, nor do I hit with hard force, when doing these drills; it's just that cheap red oak bokken are not meant for such contact drills, and this message was conveyed when two people in a row ended up breaking their cheap red oak bokken against mine. Do it right the first time. Using something like jatoba, purpleheart, or hickory, is going to be your best bet.

The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
NinTai Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 I was very pleased with the ones that Bugei offers.Handles are longer and it tends to feel more like areal sword. My opinion.http://bugei.com/subcategory_31.htm Too early in the morning? Get up and train.Cold and wet outside? Go train.Tired? Weary of the whole journey and longing just for a moment to stop and rest? Train. ~ Dave Lowry Why do we fall, sir? So that we may learn how to pick ourselves back up. ~ Alfred Pennyworth
