abel Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 Yaw-Yan is a pure filippino kick boxing stye founded by grandmaster Napolean.A.Fernandez.They have a website about this arthttps://www.yawyan.com.I have no personal experience in this art.But from my research ,it is like muaythai with a lot of other techniques like a lot of different powerful kicks and differant punches which is called bolo punches. Its kicking currriculum includes 40 fundamental kicks, variations of these 40 kicks like stepping, jumping etc and advanced trick kicks. The total number of kicks exceeds 200.Unlike korean martial arts, the yaw-yanistas use their shins also for their kicking just like in Muay Thai. They use everuy part of legs for kicking like shin, feet, balls of feet, thigh etc.their famous kicks include mountain-storm kick, scorpion kick etc. They have an antigrappling system called Yaw-Yan Ardigma.abel Yss
Goju_boi Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I've researched yaw yan,it sounds great ,but I havent found any schools in my area to check out.Can you tell me about their antigrappling system please? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
abel Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 hi Goju_boiFirst of all, i havnt studied yaw-yan ,but i am very eager to study this style.i'm planning to visit philippine's for this.I researched a lot about Yaw-Yan in the net. What i understood from my research is that Yaw-Yan has three divisions.1.Yaw-Yan Kickboxing 2.Yaw-Yan combat 3.Yaw-Yan weaponariesYaw-yan kickboxing is very famous in philippines as the yaw-yanistas has defeated all the styles like Karate,Kung fu, and even Muaythai in the ring and it is dominating in the filippiono kickboxing(standup fighting) field since it came in to being in 1972.Yaw-Yan Combat is the street fighting style of yaw-yan with all dirty techniques, grappling, groundfighting etc.It also has the same aspect of other filippino martial arts like 'Defanging the snake'(limb Destructions) etc.Yaw-yan Weaponaries-This the Arnis styles in which Grandmaster Napolean Fernandez is trained.i dont know much about it. Among these three ,YY Kickboxing became very popular as all of the students want to fight in the ring and very few was interested in the other two,ie YY combat and YY weaponaries. But with the introduction of MMA in Philippiones ,things had gone wrong.Although yawyanistas were unbeatable in the standup fighting ,they were not able to fight good in the ground. So some of the Yaw-Yans start mixing Yaw-Yan with grappling.an example is like Henry Koyabishi's Yaw-Yan called Hybrid Yaw-Yan(Yaw-Yan +Sambo) But Master Nap is not very much impressed with that and he came back from retirement and found Yaw-Yan Ardigma.I think Yaw-Yan Ardigma contains the above three styles of Yaw-Yan(YY kickboxing,YY combat,YY weaponaries) plus counters against various styles like Karate, Kung fu,Muay Thai ,Judo Jujitsu etc.The major principle of Yaw-Yan Ardigma is counter the grappling ,stay back in the feet and knockout the opponent with one of the powerful kicks or hand techniques. It can be used both in the streets and in the ring. The most interesting thing is that Yaw-Yan Ardigma is not shown to public yet.About twenty students are currently training under master Nap and i heard they will be ready by 2007.Training is very hard and is kept in very secret that the other yaw-yan clubs havnt got any information like how training is done ,the techniques and so on.Even if itzlike this i Have seen some ads in the Yaw-yan website and in some other forums about Yaw-Yan Ardigma Camp for foriegners etc.But i dont know anything else about it.thank youabel Yss
