Just about every striking stlye with the exception of boxing has more techniques than Muay thai. It's effectivenes comes from it's simplicity and constant focus on the most basic and effective moves.

mauy thai is brutal. in thailand sensais break there students bones to toughen them up, but the style is effective and the raw power in every strike is massive

i dont have much experience with Yaw Wan, but MT is genereally considered one of the more effective MAs, it has some vicious and very effective strikes and trainign methods, coupled with clinch / grappling work makes it hugely effective.

muay thai actually has quite alot of techniques just most are not seen in the ring. otherwise i agree with previous post. and what is Yaw wan? from name in guessing chinese MA

Too many people mistake Muay Thai as seen in ring fights as being all there is to it. My memory is a bit hazy on it but i remember a friend talking about something like 12 major techniques and 12 minor techniques and some of them are more than a bit outrageous. But then again, I'm aware that winning a ring fight and beating the hell out of someone aren't always the same thing.

How much of the non-sport Muay Thai is taught?

Muay thai is taught as a sport period, I believe. But that really doesn't matter. They're sport is one of fighting (standing up anyway), and if you kick a thai kick, you kick the best kick in the world. The only difference between their "sport" and a street fight is gloves (sometimes), and no ground aspect. Although, against an untrained fighter, the ground aspect would probably be nonexistant because the thai boxer would lay the other guy out in no time.

thats true but they are at a disadvantage in MMA because of there lack of ground work although they still do really well. and what about yaw yan... still no info.
