Maciej
I'm just wondering if i'm the only one that has been changed by martial arts to the point wherei look down on this generation of fellow teenagers. I find this whole MTV bread pop culture to be heading the the exact opposite way of that of the traits and skills i learn from martial arts. I find that too many teenagers are obsessed with sex and stuff like that and are blinded by that to care for much else. I can't even talk to the majority of girls because of their ignorance on many levels (no offence to anyone), wow they may be good looking but there's nothing upstairs. Meanwhile i find the majority of guys obsessed with the way they look or stuff like that, ready to start an argument at the drop of a hat. Anyways, just one of my random rants
Jack
First of all Maciej, welcome to the boards! Feel free to make an introduction post in the Introductions section if you wish And in response to what you've said, I agree. The majority of teenagers seem to roughly matched what you've said, but there are a definite few, such as some I've made friends with, which aren't like that at all. You have a definite point, though JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
spinninggumby
Being an old-timer now at 22, I can kind of look back and see what you are saying. However, as someone who just left the teen phase(s) about 3-4 years ago, I would have to say that in most cases acting loud and stupid, carrying the burden of superficial worries, and worrying about makeup and girls/guys and all that crap (which just evolves into something even more troubling, it's called marriage 'Conviction is a luxury for those on the sidelines'William Parcher, 'A BEAUTIFUL MIND'

three60roundhouse
We (by "we" I mean American society, I don't know about everyone else), are way too eager to blame someone else as opposed to ourselves for our problem, thus inhibiting ourselves from becoming a better society in general. Here's an example: Now, I like McDonals once in a while as much as the next, but 60% of American adults and 13% of children are OBESE! Not baby fat here, but serious weight problems. Now, a large group of lawyers is going to SUE MCDONALDS for endangering the children and people by not warning them of the effects of consuming a large, disgusting blob of grease for dinner.... Hmm...maybe if we all just excercised and ate healthy foods, it wouldn't be such a problem. So, we need to stop blaming MTV, the media, the radio, Jerry Springer, etc., becasue these people are simply doing things "the American way" - cashing in on ignorance and society's desire to get "fast fixes" - as opposed to good diets, we go on pills that make our metabolisms spin into orbit, we buy stupid electronic ab-toners instead of doing some crunches and bicylcles... We need to blame ourselves. We are the only ones who can save society... 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt! SaiFightsMS
First welcome to the forum MacieJ. I see Jack now has a foil to bounce ideas off of . I think what you are experiencing is a result of some of the more traditional values martial arts try to teach. Some schools more effectively than others. It is an interesting comment you have made. Come in often and share more of your thoughts. Sai
Angus
Shoot man, martial arts have been a part of my life since i was 6 and i still go out and drink and party and do stupid stuff like that.... But then again i'm not a true martial artist, i'm just like some dude who knows how to 'retire' people. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. ZR440
Part of the problems that kids have today stem from their parents. A lot of parents are morons. I consider it job security though. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
Phantasmatic
At our High School we have many martial artists that are diciplined and taught the right things, but we do have many of the teenieboppers and goths as well! _________________ "If you have job, you wear the pants!" CTpizzaboy
Welcome to the board, MacieJ. Now whats wrong with being obessed with sex, man. lol. I love Hooters, wet t-shirt contests, and girls jumping on trampulings. God Bless America. But I have to agreed, most kids these they are not respectful, rude, and only care about themself, selfish little b&$tard. When I was 18, we didn't have MTV or Hooters. There was just my pa on a banjoe with a harmonica and old Mrs. Barbara across the street. And seeing her in a night gown gave me nightmares. Now I'm tarting to sound like my grandpa on one of his rants about life. Were the hell did I put that Viagra bottle? Canh T.I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversations.
