Kickbutt
Hey! Yesterday we were doing a bit of shadow sparring as we were warming up and I had a bit of a problem when sparring this one guy who kept coming in really close - it was sooo frustrating!!! Argh!! I actually got a really bad bruise/mark on my shin cause he got too close as I was throwing a round-kick and got my shin-bone, ouch!!! Anyways, I know it's a good idea to manuever as much as possible - to go around him when he comes in close - as in to turn to my left or right. I usually like to use my front-kick to push people away, but this guy was way too close for that. Does anyone have any other techniques that work really well, other than what I've already mentioned? Thanks! Lori If you think something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.-Unknown-
DIABLO
U have get him as he steps in. Throw a jab to the chin, a leading hook or even foot sweep. If he dosen't go down from the sweep he will loose his balance which will give you time to move out into striking range. keep your hands up!! Kickbutt
Thanks alot, I totally forgot about the sweep!! I couldn't do that though, cause it was just shadow sparring. I'll try that and a good jab next time. thaiboxerken
Shadow sparring? Is that like really light sparring? I am not familiar with the term. DIABLO
shadow sparring is a warm up where you just show technique, no actual contact( very light). just to get body tempature up , work on foot work and body positioning keep your hands up!!
Kickbutt
Yep, that's right - thanks Diablo. Usually I wear shin-protectors, cause mine are so bony that it doesn't take much to bruise. We weren't actually supposed to hit each other, but he just got in so close that when I did a roundhouse I hit him when he blocked. ewing
If he gets in your face through a technique that he won't want to get hit by again. That way he will know that he can't just get in your face. Hit first, hit hard, hit fast!
Angus
Elbow, knee, lock, throw.... Come in close and you'l meet my four friends. Stay far away and you'l eat my boot. Either way i'm not a very pleasant person to spar against - even if it's only light. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. thaiboxerken
You could actually try to TALK to this guy and tell him that you really aren't sparring.. you're really just warming up. Tell him to keep his distance or you'll really think he wants to spar and you'll really kick him. Or that you wn't want to train with him anymore. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
