ninjanurse
It may be that you are comfortable with him and have seen his fighting style so you know what to expect. It could also be that your just getting better! elila
Does your friend do MA, practice as much as you do, been at it as long as you have? Are you more comfortable with him than other people? Have his moves become predictable? Are you larger/smaller/smarter/quicker (basically insert something that would give you an advantage here)than he is? How would any of us know? There's so many reasons why. Maybe you're just losing some of your insecurities as your progressing in the MA.
SaiFightsMS
And maybe you trust him more not to kill you in the process of sparring. I find when learning to spar one makes the most progress when paired with someone they trust and have confidence in.
KF Dude
Trust in your sparring partners allows the ego to be put aside & creates a great learning enviroment. If he/she happens to land a hard shot you won't question his/her intent. You can appreciate that while you weren't cooperating a good technique was sucessfully run on you. Which validates the practical application of your art.

glockmeister
Its easier to spar with someone you know over someone you don't. It's the natural fear of the unknown that can sometimes make us nervous. When you dont know a person, you don't know thier skill level, intent, strength, etc.. "You know the best thing about pain?
