grd
I have been to many tournaments and schools and have noticed that there is no consistency when it comes to which side the stripes are worn on the belt. My question is: Which side do you wear your stripes and why?
Kicks
We wear stripes to the left. I don't know if there is some universal protocol, but that's our dojang's tradition. We have another. This one is regarding the probational black belt, also known as the poom belt or Cho Dan Bo. It is the belt that is half red and half black. Since we have four parts to (levels) of Cho Dan Bo the student wears the red at top and black on bottom for the first two parts (or levels) and then flips it over to black on top and red on bottom for the last two parts. when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
Grenadier
When I was training in Shotokan Karate, we wore the stripes on the left side. When I was training in Tae Kwon Do, we wore the stripes on the right side. My current and previous dojo do not use stripes. When I asked Sabum-nim why we wore the stripes on the right side, I got a one knuckle rap to the head, and a gruff response in Korean, that basically translated to "because it's always been that way." greenbelt_girl15
We wear our stripes on the left. As far as I know it's just always been that way in cuong nhu. parkerlineage
Only our kids recieve stripes, and they wear them wherever they can - for some, it's ipmressive if they can tie their own belt, anyway.Parkerlineage American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
ninjanurse
I have always worn my stripes to the left-in all systems I have studied, however I would say that it is pretty much up to your systems tradition "A Black Belt is only the beginning."Heidi-A student of the artsTae Kwon Do,Shotokan,Ju Jitsu,Modern Arnishttp://the100info.tumblr.com/

aefibird
My Sensei doesn't really mind, as long the stripes stay on and the belt stays tied during training... "Was it really worth it? CapitalKarate
I think there is a certain side it goes on in my dojo, but as aefibird's sensei is, my sensei doesn't care which side it goes on.
