Chang-hon Patterns

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any information on the history of the Chang-hon patterns? I don't need to know the background of the forms as that information is easily found, but instead I would like information on the development of the forms, i.e. influences, history, timeline, etc. Thank you.

Give that one a try... that man has OODLES of information right there.

Basically, if you follow the history of General Choi Hong Hi...(Incidentally... Chang-hon, is his pen name, as he was also a calligrapher, and Chang-hon, means 'Blue cottage')

You'll have the history of the forms as he developed them.:)

One tidbit that's missed sometimes...

Up until the 1980's... he only had 20 forms in his system...

Sometime after the 80's... he developed 4 more... to form what is currently a 24 form system... one form for each of the hours of a day.

Good luck in your research!
