During my convalescence I am taking up Taiji as I will be unable to run, kick, or jump for 6 months. My master instructor teaches it in addition to his main system and since I am a certified instructor it is only a matter of time before I have to take it up anyway. All of the arts I have studied have built upon and complimented each other quite well, and I am sure that Tai Ji will be no different, however I was thinking (ouch!) that it is going to be difficult for me to switch gears. A challenge indeed!

Taiji is very different from the other martial arts you have listed, but very useful, and I feel it complements any martial art well. It may be hard at first to switch gears, but once you get into taiji it is a great art to practice, and not just for the martial side. Enjoy and keep us updated on how its going.

If the tai chi yo are learning isjust the form, some use of the waist and cirlces, it won't be hard to transition. If it is combat tai chi with proper involvement of the qwa, complete alignment of the joints and no external power at all, it will take some concentration.

It will have to be your main focus unti you "get it," otherwise the hard style stuff will interfere with your progress.

Good luck, and a good recovery,

Taiji is great - I'm sure that with all your previous MA experience that you will take to it like a 'duck to water'! Good luck with the Taiji training and good luck for a speedy recovery too! :karate:

Best wishes for your recovery. You're going to hear the word "relax" a whole lot in your tai chi training. But you'll love it. :)
