mlee Posted May 18, 2005 Author Posted May 18, 2005 Same thing here, in our dojo it's a 50/50 split, and I think it's better that way to be more rounded. What sort of Judo do you take raven? I know there are some Rikidokan schools in Quebec...seems to be popular over the Maritimes as well. Side note: Just wanted to thank everyone who replied to my post.Matt
seersin Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Yeah we do a good 50/50 split as well,I personally like it that way better. ISAIAH 53:5
y2_sub Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 So there is a style of judo that stresses Ne waza like in BJJ ??? Either ways BJJ is an offshoot of Kano's Judo . Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Fu Man Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 So there is a style of judo that stresses Ne waza like in BJJ ??? Either ways BJJ is an offshoot of Kano's Judo .Yes. Kosen Judo. Also, I have heard of American Combat Judo that focuses on in-close self-defense tactics. Does anyone know much about this style of Judo?Ted
kenpo4life Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 First of all, Kano was NOT happy with how judo turned out. He felt that the focus of true judo was lost. Kosen, focused more on groundwork. After the throw, groundwork was used until a submission was reached. If you look at the older judo books, you will find a lot of what is called bjj now. Omoplatas, bicep slicers, leglocks, hip cranks, you name it. If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
