Why_Worry Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Dictionaries are largely a waste of time when it comes to defining words that are debateable, you'll find a short, one line answer that might give you a general idea, but not a full description.lol, great point. I dont like it when teachers do stuff liek that cause when they wind up teahcing stuff about liek japan or china and start talking about like the samurai class or marital arts or like yin and yang or philosophy i usually knwo more about some of the stuff than them, but they never believe me when i answer stuff on tests or projects because its either not correct according to the deffinition or something like that. Sengra Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 ^_^...Fencing is a western martial arts... The stronger swordsman does not always win.
aruder Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I feel that fencing is a martial art, depending on the mindset of the practitioner. If you go into fencing or any fighting style to improve the physical, emotional, spritual, and mental self, to perfect the asthetic and martial aspects of the style, and to grow through learning and understanding, it is a martial art, regardless of the modern or immediate application of the self defense. If you learn a style with only the intention of beating the snot out of someone, that then is a martial science.
Sengra Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 But I think the martial arts were really designed to be effective in real battle situation...fencing evolved from rapier fighting... The stronger swordsman does not always win.
Anbu Alex Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 But I think the martial arts were really designed to be effective in real battle situation...fencing evolved from rapier fighting...the same can be said about kendo. kendo isnt battlefield fighting it was a sport derived from kenjutsu and iadojutsu but it is still considered a martial art White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
