but in a one on one duel between the two i would bet they are both gonna hit the ground unless one has a lot longer reach. (chi/ki/qi too) but they can all be effective.

I would just like to say that epee practioners are trained nt to get hit, as any part of the could be a target, unlike foil and saber. :)

i belive that a martial art is diferent to a weapons art but i guess if yoga can count fencing definatly should be in their i love fencing alwyas wanted to take it up but dont know if it is a martial art

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

Wait....since when has yoga been a martial art? As far as i know yoga isnt a martial art, but its still fun.

That's like saying running, weight lifting, and strechting are MA.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

Yoga is not a martial art...

Just as something can be a Martial art if it isn't asian, Asian things aren't always martial arts...

Fencing is, at least as much as any Asian system.

Dictionaries are largely a waste of time when it comes to defining words that are debateable, you'll find a short, one line answer that might give you a general idea, but not a full description.

Looking at the words individually is also a waste as pretty much none of the things we consider martial arts ever had anything to do with warfare. Mostly civillian self-defence, streetfighting and duelling, with maybe a little law enforcement on the side. But not far, no one goes to war unarmed...
