jedimc Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I would like to do Tai Chi later when I leave school at the moment Aikido is enough for me, I would do it because it is a great art and I beleive it is a perfect match for Aikido.Anyway I saw Tai Chi dvds, I dont think they were for self defence Tai Chi but more for health and fitness like that stuff u see people doing on the beach in the mornings- would this be good training until I get a Tai Chi instructer?thanks http://jedimc.tripod.com/ma.html - what MA do you do, this is my poll.
taiji fajin Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 If you learn taiji correctly, there is no way to get one without the other (martial art and health, or the other way around). Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage.
aefibird Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Well, learning yourself from a DVD would be OK if you had no other option, but I always dislike learning anything martial art-y from a DVD because it is no substitute for a real-life instructor. DVDs and the like are a good addition for practitioners who have an instructor and want to practice/learn more at home.If you're serious about wanting to learn Tai Chi (which you seem to be) then I suggest that you wait until you feel able to fit it into your schedule. it will still be there in a few years time when you have finished school. Plus, it is great for all ages, so don't feel that you have to learn Tai Chi 'now'. It's better to wait a while and get a competent instructor than to try and teach yourself from a DVD and possibly be teaching yourself wrongly.Good luck with whatever you decide to do. jedimc Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 Thanks for the advice, I knew learning from a video might have that problem where you teach yourself the wrong technique and you end up having a hard time fixing it.I dont need to rush it I got plenty of time lol, but Ill research the different styles of tai chi more. http://jedimc.tripod.com/ma.html - what MA do you do, this is my poll.
