pineapple
Although I practice the spearhand, I would hesitate to use it in a real situtation for fear fear of missing a soft target and breaking my fingers on a hard target.I'm wondering how many people have used the spearhand in a real confrontation. Mr Pockets
The only thing I'd ever use except a fist is a palm- and that's only if I happen to be hitting them in the back of the head.
Mr. Mike
I would use it, but only if I had a clear target and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that once I committed, I wouldn't hurt myself...so really, no, I guess I wouldn't use it on the street, because I don't have my partner standing just that way he needs to for the strike when I'm on the street. cathal
I used it against my brother when we began our Karate training many years ago. I didn't control it well, and I got him right in the sternum, it hurt him pretty effectively. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Ridge_hand
I would never use a spearhand unless I'm sure I could make movements to make sure it hits a soft spot. So I guess I would pretty much not use it.
granmasterchen
I would only use a spear hand if I really wanted to KILL the individual. Remember that the spear hand is an advanced technique that requires years to actually master. If you used a proper spear hand against one of the soft vital areas like it is meant for then you would kill someone. That is what the spear hand was created for, not for hurting, but for killing. A spear hand to the arm pit would sever a main artery that flows to the heart resulting in death from internal bleeding with in ten minutes, a spearhand to the throat would easily kill someone from destruction of the throat no way to breath, spear hand to the stomach if done PROPERLY can tear right through the stomach lining and give access to the spine, a spear hand to the groin can easily kill due to the large amount of nerves and blood flow in that region. SO remember that the spear hand is not a simple technique used to hurt someone, it is a technique that takes lots of practice to master and is only meant for one purpose: TO KILL That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
DKizzle
Excellent info, granmasterchen. A spear hand to me is like biting. If I was in serious trouble, I'd use it. Though I'd probably use a spear hand if I was really in trouble but still in control. Biting is more for breaking free from a submissive position, not an attack. Chaz
The only thing I'd ever use except a fist is a palm- and that's only if I happen to be hitting them in the back of the head. You should really consider palms to the nose and under the chin, your fist can get messed up if you punch at everything... CapitalKarate
I had surgery on my right hand and now I have limited range of motion. Compared to my other wrist, there's about an inch difference. Would this affect my palm striking? Joshua Brehm-When you're not practicing remember this; someone, somewhere, is practicing, and when you meet them, they will beat you.
