Terminology Q -- Randore or rondori?

Recommended Posts

Whenever we practice our regular free-sparring, my sensei says "Ok, now we'll just do our regular [sounds like] ron-door-ee." He said he didn't know how to spell it when I asked him, so I looked it up in the dictionary. Randore means like routine, or regular occurence or something. I thought that was what it was.... later in an MA book I read that rondori is some type of sparring thing. Which do you think my sensei is using/means? (He has no idea! haha!) Randore or rondori? :-?

DORKS HAVE MORE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Savvy?

We do randori at our school, we use it for practicing new techniques and working on things we have not tryed before or are just starting to work on. Compared to normal sparring the focus of randori is more on "partner work" where you help each other work on new things. So in saying that:

does'nt it mean like group sparring like 3vs1

It can be, but it can also be just 1 on 1.

and...

Randori is like free sparring...but for grapplers. I think.

This is true, rundori is a term you would hear a fair bit in aikido and judo, but it is used in some striking arts also.
