also, i do capoiera, which i learn mostly kicks and stuff, so i thought it might be nice mixing the two.

Im brasilian, but live in the united states. Really enjoying martial arts.

Once or twice a week should be fine, although the more you practice at anything the better you'll get.

The only difference between a submission (well the joint locks at least) and a break is the intent and the amount of pressure. Pull a little further and it's a break.

In BJJ, you learn how to break arms and stuff through joint manipulation as opposed to some arts that teach breaking arms and stuff through joint strikes.

Submission is how you prevent your arms and stuff from being broken.
