shotokanwarrior
First of all let me say that I am not a newbe to MA. I studied a year of kenpo in high school and later started shotokan where I achieved purple belt, I also did a short stint in bjj. This is what I do know, I work out once a week for 3 hours with 4 black belts ranging from 2nd to 4th dan, one is a golden gloves boxer. the work out consists of boxing drills, kickboxing drills about 40 min of various sparring going between using just hands and hands and feet, and escrima drills and sparring. Now I am also taking a home black belt couse on the side, there are katas but they are not required, mainly just self defense techniques, I do pratice on a live person also. With all this considered, what is your guys take on a home study course being used this way? Meguro
Working out with your friends is a good thing. It's better than working out alone and unsupervised. As for the home-study black belt course, what do you expect to get out of it, a black belt? Toss the home study course. Keep working out with your friends or join a school/club. taiji fajin
A black belt is a piece of cloth. By itself, it means nothing. Don't bother with trying to get a certain belt, rather, just try to continually improve yourself. Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage. Pacificshore
So long as you have live partners to work with, then the home study course is more like a supplement to your training. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
shotokanwarrior
The school is dragon kenpo, there are techinques that I like and there are some that I dont. If you do not pratice then you are only fooling yourself, I have a partner helping me with the techniques and we also do full speed. Where Art ends, nature begins. Chaz
I doubt you'll learn anything but the surface of whatever MA it is your studying at home. I don't think Black Belt can truly be achieved on your own I'm sorry...
