Hobbes Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 One tip (trust me - it will steer you clear of many injuries: Do NOT peform Yoga within 12 hours of a tough training session. Yoga is all about 'loosening' things up. Loosen up your back or hamstrings (for example) before sparing and you will earn yourself a slipped disk or a pulled/torn hamstring.Remember: there is a difference between stretching to prepare your muscles/tissue for vigorous exercise and 'loosening' up for all round flexibility. Yoga is about 'relax into stretch'. This is to be very much avoided before vigorous exercise. Please provide references to at least three research articles that demonstrate a strong correlation between "loosening up" and its effects on causing injury such as torn muscles within the above mentioned 12 hours.
GojuGal Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I practice yoga on a daily basis here at my home, mostly stretching and sun salutation as well as training in karate twice a week. I have found that the yoga has greatly improved my performance in karate as well as my flexibility. I have also found that I have greater strength from yoga than before when I was only doing karate. Yoga is a very difficult practice and I see no reason why the two can't go hand in hand.Gojugal
