GTF Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 i found this and i was wondering wheather you think it is what you say it is or if it is a scam http://www.shaolinsecrets.com/ Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil~Exodus 23:2Violence, even well intentioned, always rebounds upon oneself.~Lao TzuAnd mankind is naught but a single nation~quran
fallen_milkman Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 I'm gunna go with "almost certainly a scam," since I am pretty open minded. Were I down to earth, I'd say "completely impossible." And here is why.1. No Shaolin monk would sell this knowledge, or provide someone with it that would sell it.2. Shaolin Kempo? They don't teach that at the temple. Nor do they teach any martial arts. It is the Chinese equivolent of vising Colonial Williamsburg. Most of the monks are actors. All of the monks were moved to a nearby city where they teach wushu for the Chinese communist government. There is more, but I'll see what everyone else has to say before I keep rambling. Besides, I work in about 15 minutes. This will be continued later. 36 styles of danger
Mr. Mike Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 what's promised, and what's delivered are two different things. You are promised all the secrets to learning how to fly, and secret techniques and the like, but if you read the actual description of volume 1, you will notice that it contains knowledge that you can find under any google search...what comes after that? Who cares? Certainly not the seller, who has just raked in $127 for every sucker that bought into it, and even those who wanted to debunk it. He doesn't even need to produce the extra volumes...and if he did, he could simply give more "secret" information that isn't really too secret. Constantly leading to your buying another book and onother after that...SCAM.You want secrets? You shouldn't be in the martial arts. You need to slo-mo the Jet Li movies. When a man's fortunate time comes, he meets a good friend; When a man has lost his luck, he meets a beautiful woman.-anonymous
taiji fajin Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 I know I can't wait to learn how to fly Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage.
silksword Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 well... the picture with the abbot handing dude the box is very inquiring.
EternalRage Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Definitely a scam. I am assuming most of you are either in college or in high school. As students of basic sciences, recall your physics studies, and tell me, do you really believe you can defy gravity or phase through solid matter? I highly doubt the Shaolin Monks of old can do this - they are human just like you and me. They train really really hard, so they can do things normal people cannot do such as 720 jump spinning kicks, breaking bricks with their heads, etc. However, sometimes this can get translated into more magical and superhuman feats for the sake of profit or perhaps just to add mystique to an otherwise practical and down to earth martial arts system.
fallen_milkman Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Not to mention the fact that almost all the Shaolin documents have been destroyed. Shaolin was burned multiple times in its history, and bombed once. The temple there now is not the one that was there before. 36 styles of danger
dtstiachi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 I would be leery and stay away. "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
Chaz Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 SCAM! Anyone that knows anything about chinese, especially shaolin, history knows that there goal is to preserve their secrets, not spread them around the world, completely ridiculous.... Atrix256 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 i found this and i was wondering wheather you think it is what you say it is or if it is a scam http://www.shaolinsecrets.com/Heya,This is most deffinately not a scam, I ordered my copy and it's filled with tons of good information.I ordered a similar book once in the past from wle.com entitled "72 consumate arts of the shaolin temple" which showed ways to train for things such as iron palm, being able to improve your night vision, being able to jump 2 story buildings, running on walls etc and yes....it does sound very extraordinary but the monks are just that - extraordinary. After reading through both books, the 72 consumate arts book is just a digestion of techniques described in the book you are asking about. For being able to jump over 2 story buildings (i know your saying that is impossible), it says start out by digging a hole in the ground and attaching weights to your legs. Jump in and out of the hole 3 times a day until you are unable to do so any more (until failure from fatique).Do this every day and every x number of days you are supposed to dig a small amount deeper and add a small amount of weight. After some 2 years, the hole is supposed to be 6 feet deep (if i remember correctly) and the weights of course are alot heavier by then.If you remove the weights, you should be able to jump over 20 feet verticly it says. It has much more detailed instructions than i gave but that's the gist of it.While i haven't tried this, even if it sounds bizzarre you have to admit, if you followed that training regimine, it isnt so hard to believe that you would be able to do this.Unlike the other book i mentioned, this shaolinsecrets.com book contains herbal formulas for treating injuries, history of the shaolin temple and many more very awesome things.I have read things in this book that my instructor told me about connection, body mechanics, footwork etc so I can attest to the validity of this book.Deffinately not a scam.In response to the person who said:SCAM! Anyone that knows anything about chinese, especially shaolin, history knows that there goal is to preserve their secrets, not spread them around the world, completely ridiculousI would like to remind you that the monks are buddhist, and that they research and teach the martial arts to be able to share the good it brings with the world. They are not a cult surrounded in secrecy, they are buddhist monks trying to make the world a better place by helping people be able to defend themselves from predators and also by helping people be healthier.Sorry folks, the monks aren't racist and try to keep the art "pure" by only teaching chinese people, or hording the secrets to themselves.Although in the book it does mention that at various times in shaolin history, they did try to hide alot of what they knew because bad people were using the knowledge for the wrong reasons.Give it a read, you will learn a TON
