Jared Posted February 19, 2002 Posted February 19, 2002 I have never really been to a Dojo, just a few training camps. I didnt notice any racsism there. Mind you there not too much in our country being multicultural. Its a very bad thing. In our family we have a mix of blood of Irish, Scotish and Okinawan. These days so many people have mixed blood it would be silly to be rascist I think!!
kicker Posted February 20, 2002 Posted February 20, 2002 well at the club i go to I have never seen any racism It could happen sometime but I guess it's sometimes rare. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
Piastre Posted February 20, 2002 Posted February 20, 2002 It would never be tolerated at my dojo. Just as a side-line. Would people here continue to train at a school where there was overt racism, or any ism for that matter? Especially if it originated with the sensei/instructor.
spinninggumby Posted February 20, 2002 Posted February 20, 2002 Blatant discrimination in a school would be a huge and accurate sign that the instructors or the organization is narrow-minded and ignorant. Ignorance and prejudice is closely tied with the inability to adapt to new methods or ideas, as well as the unwillingness to receive or accept innovation and/or improvement (whether it be referred to one's outlook on society or one's outlook on where his/her style stands). For this reason alone, I would pack up my bags and jump ship. 'Conviction is a luxury for those on the sidelines'William Parcher, 'A BEAUTIFUL MIND'
ramymensa Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Racism is a sign of narrow mindness and I hate it. I have friends that are other race, other colour, other religion and some are even gay. So what? They are great friends as long as they are smart, funny and open-hearted. And they are... The rest doesn't matter. And in our dojo there's no room for such things. Thank God for my sensei World Shotokan Karate
LeaF Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 I am yet to encounter rascism at any dojo. The best student at my dojo is African Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. With enough knowledge, any man may become wise. It is the true warrior who can master both....and surpass the result.I AM CANADIAN
BlueDragon1981 Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 I have not. We dont have many other races in my area. Its primarily white. I dont care what race a person is. I go by who they are not what there skin color is. I will respect anyone who respects me. I go to school with other races. You know what I dont see any racism there. We all generally get along. I think some of the younger generation may be getting past some of the racism. Or it could just be my area. I dont know. Anyway skin color, religion and sexual prefrence should not matter as long as you are treated with respect.
inyctrotter Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Sometimes but everybody is just joking. Don't take it seriously.
monkeygirl Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Fortunately I've never had to deal with racism in my dojo. But then again, all the students (except one african-american girl) are white. Like that one comedian says: Let's just keep mixing the races 'til we're all one grayish color!! 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
ramymensa Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 It reminds me of some kind of saying: "We are not racists. We all know human race is WHITE." Well honestly I wish I was asian or african. They are REALLY beautiful. And I thank God for those many colours. Otherwise, after seeing white faces we would eventually see ... black ... World Shotokan Karate
