look i have asked many times if there is a good tai chi master in the midwest i will go spar him and post what happens here. just saying i have spared a guy who had 20 years of tai chi (Wu style) when he was in south east asia and he is very good at the forms but he has no clue how to fight with it. if the art cant make you a good fighter in 20 years when does it become effective? we where only doing light contact and he still was trying to shove me and do all these hand movements that where just wasting energy. i took a few lessens from him because it looked cool and he was very good at his art but it would not be my first choice for fighting.

i think it has some really good blocks and stances from what ive seen but maybe not as a stand alone system to learn how to fight, i think it would enhance your fighting if you have previous experience
