Whats up all?

New to the forum and first message.

I am 33 years young and train in the disciplines of Tang Soo Do, Escrima & Hapkido. On April 2 2005 I participated in my first tournament. I participated in the point sparring event wich i had a blast. (fight history: used to box, kickbox & streetfight). Although I was not used to the differance of point sparring to all out or continuous I enjoyed the tournament experience from beginning to end. Faired well in the competition. Placed fourth. Won my first lost next two to points after time ran out with a tie breaker in the final. In these being my first fights I didnt really have all the rules down and didnt really let people know to come watch with the exception of family and a cpl friends. I brought no school representation other than myself and a fellow student . Like I said earlier I had a blast and did very well. I definately made a splash as a new competitor. What I did notice though when i got home and was able to watch the matches from the video that was captured I noticed some blatent miss scorings. Not only noticed by myself but by others who wiewed the video. I do know that several competitors were from the same schools as each other in my division. Mind you I did not complain that day or since but i will be sure to bring representatin to my next tourney.

Why i did as well as i did i believe is because i brought a different style to the table rather than doing like everyone else. More technically and foundationally strong moves. Right to the point. power with speed.

less flash. moves that would work in real situations.

Glad you enjoyed the tournament...that is what they are for. There are some inexperienced judges out there, but speaking from experience it is tough judging a point sparring match. You are ONLY supposed to call what you see. There have been matches when someone threw a punch or kick, and I heard it hit, but I didn't see it. I would bet my bottom dollar it was not blocked, but I couldn't call it. I am sure the competitor was wondering if Stevie Wonder was judging!

Hey White_Tiger

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah as Bernard Hopkins said, " I'm not gonna leave it in the hands of the judges." Next tourney I just do more and be sure to have good representation. I also know after watching the tape and re-action from fans and fellow competitors just as well as the ones I fought , I could sense when each bout was over, ones won and ones lost, they new as well who did what.

You boxed and kickboxed in the past eh? Then why would you short change yourself get into point fighting? You are going to develop bad habits if you are not careful and those bad habits could hurt you in the kickboxing/boxing arena
