Joshuasan Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I havent practiced martial arts in years, and recently got back into it. Just got out some notes and my bo and have been trying to figure out some of these katas. It would really help if i could find a site where i could read about how to perform moves and watch some katas and maybe even learn a new kata or move or technique. have any of you come across a good site that might have this info, and maybe some videos. thanks

You can get kobudo videos from them. These are instructional- don't know how good they areGo to http://www.shorei-kanusa.com/books.htm There are 3 tapes on the bo you can order

Sauzin Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Or you could find a good instructor. You know just a thought. Seriously though, most weapon instructors I've met love analyzing other people's kata's. If you have some old kata's that are a bit rusty and would like some help brushing them up then run them by an instructor. If you can't remember a move and he doesn't know, chances are he either knows someone who does or has a video or book he might lend you himself. If the kata are in really that bad of shape though, and you can't go back and re learn them from an actual person, then it is probably best that you learn some new kata from someone else. You'll get more that way. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
