radicalspiegal Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Give me what ya'll think about American Kenpo and the different karate styles. What you would prefer and why. Through the night, a raven's schrill cry,The wind, caressed by darkness, howls through the sky.The stars in the heavens look upon the corrupt world below,And as mankind's laid to rest, their fate they do not know.
tsdshep Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 that is a very debated subject in the karate world. In my experince kenpo guys all say that kenpo is the best. I disagree i think no art is better thean the other. i believe it depinds on the person and the teacher. I aam lucky anuf too study under a true grandmaster. He tells us too be humbel and dont bad mouth any art. But the few times i have seen the kenpo guys in our area thay had loud mouths and bad tecnique. but my instrocter told me its not the art its the instructor. He says thear are great martalartest in ever styel you just have two find theam. the more i read abut kenpo it seems too be a great styel i prefer tangsoodo but thats because i take tangsoodo. I hope i helpd
parkerlineage Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 I happen to have trained in Ed Parker's American Kenpo for the last 11 years.I don't know enough about other Karate styles to judge Kenpo against the others, but I will tell you that it *is* a good art. Of course, we have our idiots, just like any other style. However, if you want a style with no religious aspects, generally hard hitting, very scientific, and quite adaptable, Kenpo is good. And, of course, it depends on your instructor...there those out there who shouldn't be.Peace;Parkerlineage American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
Razor11 Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 tsdshep- Said it best I believe, it is about the person foremost. Now, there are watered down martial arts or arts that simply are not practical for self-defense but when folks talk about the best art, that is subjective. Each style has its share of efficent individuals and weak individuals- No art can fix that!American Kenpo is a great martial art, and no I do not study it--- But the movements seem scientific and practical, which makes sense.Keep in mind there are MANY Kempo/Kenpo styles out there and some have more differences than similarities. So we do not practice all the same movements-To each his/her own,Jamey
