NotQuiteDead Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I know it's not set in stone. I'm not talking about a dictionary definition here, I'm talking about how it's used in wrestling, sub grappling, etc. I already said I was talking about what I see as a throw.Since you're so concerned about definitions, lets discuss the meaning of 'full contact' while we're at it. Do you consider what the guy is doing in this picture a 'punch'?http://www.smithtaekwondo.com/Alexio%20side%20kick.jpgMost martial artists and people in general probably wouldn't, but according to the dictionary it is:deliver a quick blow to; "he punched me in the stomach"Terms used to discuss martial arts don't always mean the dictionary definition.
GhostlySykanRyu Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I'm not concerned with dictionary definitions , I was trying to use them to help get a point across.Tomoe Nage is a throw. It has two possible translations into English. "Circle THROW" and "Stomach THROW". Why would so many Judokas and JJJ practitioners refer to something as a throw if it was not indeed a throw? To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
NotQuiteDead Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Why would they refer to "Mountain Storm" if it's not a storm? As I said, terms used in martial arts don't always mean the literal definition.Like I said earlier, in judo nearly anything counts as a throw. Sweeps/trips included. If I trip you does that count as a throw? Soccer players must be great at throwing, then.
