Ginny Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 How old is the " Kid" ? If it is possable I would say to just smile and ignore the fact he has a crush becouse if he is put on the spot he may not return to class or to Martial arts period. Though if he makes advances perhaps have another instructer talk to him saying he has noticed it instead of you putting him on the spot. DragonMike Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I agree if you ignore it, it should pass in time. I wouldn't bring it up unless he does. 5th Dan Tang Soo Do

Krazy Carol Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 It's a tough thing to handle teenage boys and crushes. I think the whole pretend it isn't happening thing is the best thing. I did have a student that I had known since he was in first grade (he was in my son's class) who started coming up behind me and kind of tickling me. That I couldn't ignore, but I think I handled it okay. I told him it wasn't appropreiate and he stopped. Thank goodness, it didn't get any weirder than that.I took a lot of ribbing from other instructors for it..... AHHH they are a funny bunch of guys. IronWarrior Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I would'nt worry about it until it becomes a problem, dont say nothing to him it will only embaress him since your a higher rank e.t.c.., unless he comes up to you about it and says he likes you deal with it then and say I have a boyfriend e.t.c. e.t.c.. I had a girl that had a crush on me 8 years ago that I used to teach, Ironically I got talking with her and we ended up dating and going together for 3 years it did'nt work out in the end and she ended up quiting but we still talk off and on e.t.c.. since you dont like this guy in that way, and you also have a boyfriend it should'nt be a problem, just stay hush hush about it..good luck
ramymensa Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Hey,Something just came up in my dojo over the past few weeks. I am a female instructor, 27, usual bits and pieces... however I'm getting feedback from my students that one in particular has a crush on me... so, what do I do, ignore him? Take the moral higher ground and say I'm above all that... he's quite young and I'm engaged (fiance also does Karate) so he knows that well I'm taken... so how do I handle the situation. Has anyone been in the same situation...I am not an instructor yet, but I had some issues like this .. people younger who liked me. The way I chose: be natural and friendly, but just FRIENDLY. I try to leave all traces of "attraction" aside and act as if the person is just another pal. in my case it worked. The person "sensed" I am not offering more than my friendship and it was oK. Balrog Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Heh, heh. That brings back a memory. I know of a school where a young female student (16 or so) developed a serious crush on the head instructor, to the point where she almost went into heat when he walked on the floor. He handled it quite professionally, never hurt her feelings in any way. But it was amusing to watch how she would try to get him to work one-on-one with her, and he would deflect her over to his wife, who was the other instructor in the school.
