yeah i know i dont know anyone on here and i also know this is only news to me but i finally have my first kickboxing match scheduled! Its in venice, florida and its on may 28th. Any tips on how i should go about training? I already am sparring under my masters guidance but otherwise he said to just practice practice and practice and also run! So if anyone could give some advice on how they prepare that would be great!

visualize many different fight scenarios in your mind and each time visualize yourself winning. Also practice carefully in the ring.... you do not want to go into your first match with an injury.

Hit up the punching bag for 30 min, do at least 20 min of jumprope straight which would help you so much more then a few hours of running straight but i do both; stretch throughly, pratice envading with a double end striking bag; my schedule is run 2-3 miles a day (spreaded out) 20 min of jump rope (1 time) 300-1000 situps (depending on my mood), 100-500 pushups (depending on my mood). hit double end striking bag for 15-20 mins also hit the speed bag for 15-20 min. Hope this helps because conditioning is very important.

A fight takes alot of energy. Each round is 3 minutes of non stop pushing yourself. You need to develop this ability. Do cardio, and then about alot of windsprints if you can. I like to run up to a football field, then run the length of the football field. Have a watch handy, and count 15-20 seconds, then go again. This is alot of work, and maybe you won't be able to do very many at the start. Start with 10 and try to work up. But remember, pushing yourself is they key to winning a fight. Most matches go to the fighter with the most heart. Try to do lots of rounds on the thai pads if you can too! That's my advice, enjoy!

I woudn't recommend that. since you are training for a fight, you want to be used ot the pacing of the fight. there is a HUGE difference between trying to fight for 20 mins straight and fighting for 2 mins, then taking a break - the pacing is different. Hit the bag, jump rope, etc. in rounds of 2 mins, breaking for one minute in between. This way, you can vary your intensity throughout the round and make sure you do so without either 1.) wearing yourself out too early or 2.) taking it too easy. Try to get in at least 10 rounds of work.

Start running as well - try to go about three miles three days per week. On non 3 mile days, fit in some wind sprints if you have the opportunity. Lots of drilling and sparring, but that should be no different than normal.

Do you know who your opponent is yet? If you do, find out everything you can about his fighting preferences. you need to tailor your strategy around that. For example, if he is aggressive and like to rush in and slug it out, you need to work distancing, that way you can keep him at bay and he can't get inside.

Is kickboxing an actual martial art? I was looking around for information on it and all I saw was "cardio kickboxing" Can anyone enlighten me?

Good luck! I got my second fight this saturday.

but the visualization is what i recomend. Along with cardio. and wieghts that workout the muscles you use when you punch and kick. Oh and sparring
