SevenStar Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 size matters, so does experience. So does mindset. will a bigger untrained person defeat a smaller untrained person? maybe. depends on the mindset of both. I've seen trained people get beaten by untrained guys several times. Does the trained guy have a chance? yes. he's got experience and training on his side. Now, the size factor matters MORE when the trained guy also has experience. The more experience he has, the more it matters.would bruce lee beat kimbo? maybe. would he beat vanderlei silva? probably not.
carl Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Let us not forget that Bruce Lee was also an actor!Carl
mai tai Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 technique beats strenghth everytimethats just what instuctors try to sell wimps (and wimpettes) who just got sand kicked in there face.i am going to make an anology.take a nascar race. the car is your phiscial skills the driver is your technique.in the best car a a lousy driver (me!) would get workedin a go cart .... jeff gordon wouldnt stand a chance.you need technique as well as some physicallitynow i advocate developing them both. at least to the best of your ability.you cant put in what god left out.
fangshi Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 size strength experience all matter . anyone regardless of stature can improove greatly with HARD and consistant training . the one thing that i have focused on in my training is doing things the smart way . the brain is the most dangerous of our natural weapons . use it . if your giving 10 inches in reach get close . if you are giving 50 lbs don't get too close . etc... We are not so much individual beings as individual points of perception within one immense being.
Straight Blast Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 would bruce lee beat kimbo? maybe. would he beat vanderlei silva? probably not.I agree.Bruce Lee was an exceptional fighter...back in the 70's.But I mean if someone attacked him if he was alive today, hell yeah he would rip out their hearts and show it to them before they died.MA has evolved, nowadays you see BJJers and UFC fighters.Bruce has a very high or very low chance of winning against someone like tito Ortiz or Silva.Anyways back to topic..I honeslty dont have an answer to this.SS,you said you have seen trained fighters lose to untrained ones..and that is perfectly natural. This is life, not some movie....anyone can lose or win a fight no matter how much experience. In ways everyone has advantages and disadvantages, people who lose the fight let their disadvantages get taken over. This is just IMO.
