YODA Posted February 15, 2002 Author Posted February 15, 2002 I wish our forms had cool names - our first three are called forms 1,2 and errr....3. Do you see a pattern emerging? Guess what the 6th one's called YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
Tobias_Reece Posted February 16, 2002 Posted February 16, 2002 YODA Dont let the japanese/okinawan names fool you - they are just basic names, meaning nothing spectacular!! LOL Ni-cho-zai - "form with two sai" San-cho-zai - "form with three sai" Tsu-ken-no-kon - Tsuken is a place I'm sure you can work the rest out. I just wish I could do something dynamic like " Destroying the Enemy Major" not "Two kama kata"!!!! Oh well....guess thats the way it has to be!! ronryu Posted February 16, 2002 Posted February 16, 2002 Interesting the translations of the kobudo kata we do are as follows . tokamine (is the name of the person who ws a master fo the bo ) ryu be (style of bo ) tsuriken haku no sai ( crains fist swans way ) jushi no tonfa (14 centery) hama higa (name of palce in okinawa ) kokuba (named ofter Kokuba Kosei "Kunib" ) Tiara sho (created by Shinken Tiara) Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo
SBN Doug Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Tobias...three sai??? How do you hold the third one, your toes. I didn't realize you could use more than two. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Tobias_Reece Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Doug In fact, you hold the sai with your tongue!!!! LOL. but seriously.... The third sai is held behind the belt. When one of the sai is thrown, you quickly remove the sai from behind the belt and use it. In the kata "San-cho-zai" you start with three zai, but only end the kata with one - two have been thrown into the floor. Hope this helps Tobias "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. SBN Doug Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Ahhhhh, or maybe duhhhhh. Not being from a Japanese art, I had forgotten you could throw them. Thanks. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
