al karate
Hey all,This is some equipment that people struggle with. What type of mouthguard would you buy? Would you continue training or would you have a fear of your teeth getting knocked out or messed up somehow? Let me know your feedback. BTW, my braces are being removed in 3 weeks later i think i would still would train with them in but i would not do any kumita A.kelly

Lazyeyedhobo
Whenever i wear a mouth piece my mouth produces a ton of saliva. Does that have something to do with the size of it?
sdargie
I have a really sensitive gag reflex too so I trimmed the sides down on a regular one 'til I didn't want to throw up. Now I'm not sure if I left enough to absorb all the shock of a punch though... A. Orstrom
I do not have braces, but I use the shock doctor v.3.5 and that seems to work for me. It states that it 'works well with braces', or something to that effect, but I cannot say.It works by dumping the mouthguard into boiling water for 25 seconds, then chewing down on it and then cooling it down again allowing it to set. It does give a reasonably comfortable fit. ShotokanKid
I just got braces on my bottom teeth on Friday. That night, it was so sore, but I went to karate class and forgot all about my teeth. I use shock doctor and I'm not afraid of having them broken by a strike. "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. pegasi
No one bothered to mention that one reason some people gag ,is that the mouthpiece sides are too long in the back, or the plastic on the tongue side is too thick. A bit of judicious trimming can fix that. I don't have the biggest mouth, so I tend to cut the back a bit short, so that the last molars arent biting on anything, and that helps stop the gag reflex issue. what goes around, comes around
