al karate Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Hey all,This is some equipment that people struggle with. What type of mouthguard would you buy? Would you continue training or would you have a fear of your teeth getting knocked out or messed up somehow? Let me know your feedback. BTW, my braces are being removed in 3 weeks later i think i would still would train with them in but i would not do any kumita A.kelly
kiba no chi Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 i dunno, the first time i wore a mouthgaurd it wasnt too uncomfortable, although it was flavored... i actualy kept it in for a while How many blosom's are on that tree?It is impossible to count,The number's continuoulsy change.
dtstiachi Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 the braces are off now. Hooray "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
Lazyeyedhobo Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Whenever i wear a mouth piece my mouth produces a ton of saliva. Does that have something to do with the size of it?
sdargie Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I have a really sensitive gag reflex too so I trimmed the sides down on a regular one 'til I didn't want to throw up. Now I'm not sure if I left enough to absorb all the shock of a punch though... O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!
A. Orstrom Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 I do not have braces, but I use the shock doctor v.3.5 and that seems to work for me. It states that it 'works well with braces', or something to that effect, but I cannot say.It works by dumping the mouthguard into boiling water for 25 seconds, then chewing down on it and then cooling it down again allowing it to set. It does give a reasonably comfortable fit. The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence, but in the mastery of his passions.Alfred, Lord Tennyson
ShotokanKid Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I just got braces on my bottom teeth on Friday. That night, it was so sore, but I went to karate class and forgot all about my teeth. I use shock doctor and I'm not afraid of having them broken by a strike. "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
pegasi Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 No one bothered to mention that one reason some people gag ,is that the mouthpiece sides are too long in the back, or the plastic on the tongue side is too thick. A bit of judicious trimming can fix that. I don't have the biggest mouth, so I tend to cut the back a bit short, so that the last molars arent biting on anything, and that helps stop the gag reflex issue. what goes around, comes around
Jay Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 the best guard is your arm to not get hit iv got braces and have got hit nothing happened just a cut The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
