Still doubt the effectiveness of leg kicks?

Recommended Posts

not hard to block at all

pick up lead leg, turn outward if you want to break the kickers shin.

i won a muay tai fight that way.

leg kicks are dangerous but a bit of a gamble. they can hurt you or him.

infact right now im sporting a pretty big knot on my shin.

i ussally hide them behind a combo.

if i see they dont lift the leg then its bombs away

why would you block such a low kick when you can just move out of they way.

One reason would be becuase if I block your low kick I can hit you in the chin with a right hand and knock you out or counter back with a kick to you base leg while you still recoiling.

nothin wrong with moving out of the way but if you can counter effectivly you can do more damage.

The outcome is why. That's not necessarily a block, but a 45 degree shin strike. It's a 45 degree "deflection" of a 90 degree impact. Very good and natural physics. I don't think he thought about contacting shin to shin, he just did it reflexively, the best kind of reaction.

Using the opponents momentum to increase the force of a strike or a hard block is a fundamental aspect of Okinawan karate too. A Goju stylist should just see that clip as an ideal defensive maneuver for that situation.

Moving out of the way is a good option too, but this guys defense was very sound and effective.

That's the 4th time I've seen a Muay Thai stylist or kickboxer break their shin trying to use those full force, baseball bat low shin kicks. Makes you think twice about shin kicking too much.

You can't fade me, man!

At the dojo we were doing a roundhouse kicking drill with pads. The guy holding the pad was also holding the top of the pad to take some of the impact. The guy came with a hard roundhouse, hit the guy's fingers that were holding on to the top of the pad (also over the top edge of the pad), and broke all four.

It was pretty painful to even watch, let alone to see afterwards.

If you can land a super hard kick to an arm or leg in a fight, you're set.

Disadvantage of being kicked in the leg: It can cause leg damage and interfere with your ability to fight or walk.

Disadvantage of being kicked in the head: It can cause severe damage, including concussion, unconsciousness, and death.

All things considered, I rather fight a leg kicker than a head hunter anyday.

Leg kickers kick to the head as well as targeting the thighs. Once you've taken a few shots to your leg, you'll be dreading the next one, only that one's going for your jaw. What do you do? Keep your guard up and never assume.

well, i noticed that the back of the defenders leg was facing a little outward, basically inviting the person to hit there, which was a big mistake for him

im wondering, what if the person manages to constantly keep the back of their leg behind them, how would you manage to hit there then?
