I have been leafing through these topics, but I have yet to see an answer to my odd ball question(s). I am looking for two particular weapons and have yet to find them anywhere online. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I would be interested in finding war fans that are completely metal. I know they used to exist and that they weighed about 10-15lbs each. These fans would have no fabric on them, as I have already seen the steel blade ones with binding fabric. I don't know of any martial arts supply store that carries them, and I believe it would almost have to be an antique store or a special order shop to find them.

My second search is for the Taikos (check the spelling it is awfully late here). They are the tiger claws essentially but are used in my style to work Gopeisho in representation of the peacock. Again, I have yet to even see a store that says they have them. They have the hand grappling gear for climbing but not the tiger claws.

I'm eager to hear any suggestions that you all might have :-?

I think there are 2 kinds.

One is a fan with metal 'ribs' but otherwise normal.

The other is a metal club which look like a folded up fan. I think these are cheaper.

Any pop search for 'tessen'.

Tessenjutsu usually isn't an art taught on it's own. It's usually a supplemental art for jujutsu. Very few jujutsu ryuha in Japan teach the use of the weapon these days.

BTW, Taiko in Japanese means drum. The little hand claws used by them thar ninjers are called "Shuko". They are also sometimes called Kumade (or bear claws).

Tessen is used in conjunction with jutte and taught as an axilary weapon to Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo/Jojutsu. Aside from the jo the art includes, sword (long and short), tanjo, jutte/tessen, kusarigamma and hojo.

I have trained in SMRjo for over a year and I have not learned and other weapons aside from the jo and swords althought we do occasionaly practice tanjo.

I believe most SMRjo schools teach the jo first and teach the 'axilary' weapons when all the jo kata have been learned. Our school is different in that we also teach sword from the begining.

Yeah, after Ikkaku-ryu juttejutsu (one SMRs fuzoku ryu), which does use a tessen in some techniques, Kiraku-ryu, Araki-ryu, Takenouchi-ryu definately have tessen in their syllabus, and I think maybe Daito-ryu might have a bit too.
