ShotokanKid Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 How does one effectively use a speed bag? What will working out on a speed bag do for you? SevenStar Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 it teaches you footwork, increases shoulder endurance, hand / eye coordination and teaches you to keep your hands up.However, you train shotokan... your footwork differs somewhat from a boxers, as does your guard - it may not be as beneficial to you as a heavy bag would be.
CQC Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I second SevenStar's comment - you may have to adapt/modify your footwork. I have a speed bag downstairs, and it definately has increased my coordination (both strikes and footwork) and my shoulder endurance. I replied to your other post, and I think if you had a choice between a heavy bag and a speed bag, choose the heavy bag. You can focus on a lot more technique (various strikes, kicks - basically any striking MA) and it will offer a lot more resistance/muscle conditioning aswell.More is always better, though. SevenStar Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 yeah, definitely. If you can gave both, get them. If you have to choose, get the heavy bag.
