In Judo it's:

White

Yellow

Orange

Green

Blue

Brown

Black

Red (when achieving a high Dan grade - don't remember which one. As you acquire more Dans, your belt stays red but with more and more white in it. So once you're at the highest rank you come back to white (with some red)

In Cuong Nhu it goes like this:

White

White w/one green stripe

White w/two green stripes

Green

Green w/one brown stripe

Green w/two brown stripes

Brown

Brown w/one black stripe

Brown w/two black stripes

Black

After Black belt you get a red stripe for each Dan rank.

in shotokan (or, at least in the JKA version) it goes:

white

yellow

orange

green

1st purple

2ed purple

1st brown

2ed brown

3ed brown

1st black

and then there are 9 other dans of black

stripes in shotokan are only used for lower belt levels. someone tests for their next belt and doesnt fail but isnt ready for the next belt either, sorta like a half belt.

For the Karate club I'm in (ShinkyokuShinkai), the belt system is as follows, from lowest to highest:

White

Orange

Blue

Yellow

Green

Brown

Black (Lv. 1-6)

the belt system used at my dojo has changed over time, and it's also different depending on what class your in. (little ninjas, karate kids, adult.)

The belt system as it was when i was in training for black went as follows

white

orange

yellow

blue

purple

green

brown

student black (Black with a white stripe)

black

and the belt system for kids today

white

orange

yellow

blue

purple

green

green advanced (Green with black stripe)

red

red advanced (red with black stripe)

brown

brown advanced (brown with black stripe)

student black with white stripe

student black with red stripe

student black with yellow stripe

black.

I never said it wasn't dangerous.
