DKizzle Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I'm curious as to what martial arts do/don't use belt systems, and how they work. So post yours here. Parker Kenpo- Stripes, except brown belts, are white.WhiteYellowOrangeOrange StripePurplePurple StripeBlue Blue StripeGreen Green StripeBrown 3 (1 small black stripe at end of belt)Brown 3 Stripe (Brown with white stripe)Brown 2 (2 small black stripes at end of belt)Brown 2 Stripe (Brown with black stripe)Brown 1 (3 small black stripes at end of belt)Brown 1 Stripe (Half black and half brown)The black belts go from 1-10. 1st-4th degree are indicated by a black belt with 1-4 small red stripes on the end. 5-10, I'm not sure how it works, though I've seen a 6th and 8th degree before.

tufrthanu Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I don't want to go into all the different belt progressions I've seen or used but it seems to me if you really wanted to have a belt progression with the colors going from lighter to darker it should go:WhiteYellowGreenBluePurpleRedBrownBrown w/ Black stripeBlack Long Live the Fighters!
Slydermv Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 My TKD is like this (which it WTF):WhiteYellowOrangeLt. GreenGreenPurpleBrownBlueRedDan Bo (Pre-Black)Black...but there are 6 belt systems as well as the 10 belt that we have.
Chaz Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Up to three stripes on each belt exceept for black... takes at least a year for a belt promotion.WhiteYellowGreenBrownBlack "One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do and always a clever thing to say." - Will Durant

Cmon Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 JKD doesn't have them, but you get a certificate for passing your phases. (at my dojo we are going to have a badge of somekind to show what level we are at but that i think is just my dojo)
