I'm curious as to what martial arts do/don't use belt systems, and how they work. So post yours here.

Parker Kenpo- Stripes, except brown belts, are white.

Purple Stripe

Blue Blue Stripe

Green Green Stripe

Brown 3 (1 small black stripe at end of belt)

Brown 3 Stripe (Brown with white stripe)

Brown 2 (2 small black stripes at end of belt)

Brown 2 Stripe (Brown with black stripe)

Brown 1 (3 small black stripes at end of belt)

Brown 1 Stripe (Half black and half brown)

The black belts go from 1-10. 1st-4th degree are indicated by a black belt with 1-4 small red stripes on the end. 5-10, I'm not sure how it works, though I've seen a 6th and 8th degree before.

I don't want to go into all the different belt progressions I've seen or used but it seems to me if you really wanted to have a belt progression with the colors going from lighter to darker it should go:

White

Yellow

Green

Blue

Purple

Red

Brown

Tai Chi Chuan doesn't use belts (at least not at my school)

Rank is held by how many training hours a student has

We do use sashes to show who has passed the form test in the class.

Yellow sash- level 1 completed

Blue Sash- level 2 completed

everyone else, regular uniform- rank is held by training hours.

JKD doesn't have them, but you get a certificate for passing your phases. (at my dojo we are going to have a badge of somekind to show what level we are at but that i think is just my dojo)
