seersin Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Maybe I'll just alternate a little between both.I'm only 23 I have plenty of years left to train, and you^^^ were absolutely right, they say tha JJJ is specifically for self defense.Disabling an attacker as quick as possible. ISAIAH 53:5
Treebranch Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 If you want to learn a rounded art JJJ is definitely really good depending on the school and the training methods. The thing is that it will take you alot more time to actually be proficient in. Judo is more straight forward and coupled with striking can be very effective. If you are not in a hurry to use this stuff and simply enjoy learning I would say JJJ is great and is very effective. seersin Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 Yeah,I really just enjoy learning.Like I said Im only 23,and am not worried about rushing through systems to get belts or anything like that.I just enjoy training as much as I can.I hope one of my children will enjoy learning martial arts as much as I do.My son who will be two in may,he allreadys tries to throw front kicks and punches. It's hilarious his mother dosen't think so but ya know. SevenStar Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 yeah, getting the kids into it is great. I've got a six year old, and he's been watching me compete and train since he was two. At one tournament, I got thrown, and as I was going through the air, I hear him yell "yay daddy!" - lol, he didn't know any better. Now, he knows that he wants to train judo and thai boxing. he can't start judo until he's 8, but I am teaching him muay thai. I bought him some boxing shorts and hand wraps, and we train at least 3 days a week, after my training is done.
seersin Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 LOL,yay daddy, that made me laugh.Let me ask you a question does cross training in different styles affect any of your other training.Like last night in my Enshin Karate class,I told Sempai (a 1st brown who is testing for black next month so I figured he would have good advive) I told him I wanna cross train to JJJ or Judo, and he said he didn't think it was a good idea because I might bring habits back and fourth and forget which is which,What he said makes sense but plenty of people cross train,So I was just wondering if it affects you any? Or anyone else who reads this post for that matter? ISAIAH 53:5
TJS Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Cross training is Generally a good thing. From my experience you might want to avoid cross training in two very similar style at the same time..say Karate and Kenpo becuase you might get confused.Generally training in two diffrent stlyes that focus on diffrent aspect is great and can only help you..like Judo and Boxing or karate and BJJ.There are however similar stlye that compliment each other and work well like Judo-BJJ/ Muay thai and boxing. they work great and fill int he weaknesses of the other stlye.
seersin Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 Yeah,I'm setting up to start Judo Monday. ISAIAH 53:5
