JimmyNewton Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 what do you think the ideal body tyoe for a fighter is?tall lean, short fast, thick and muscular, just wanting some opinions "The wise and successsful will always be met with violent opposition by mediocre minds."
JimmyNewton Posted March 22, 2005 Author Posted March 22, 2005 personally..i'm 6'0 215..lift weights 4 days a week, run 5 days a week. not ripped, but stomach is flat.i think people assume big people are slow, but look how fast muhamid ali was "The wise and successsful will always be met with violent opposition by mediocre minds."
ChinoXL Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 my theory is that body types are a very important element, like my friends who are tall and skinny they are really good at TKD and it hurts when u get kicked by a stick, me myself is boxing// muay thai and i'm a small fellow but built. alot of my friends refer to me as "tank" that trades blow for blow and said i'm the ideal grapplier since i also take bjj. My all around friend does mantis kung-fu and he never lost a real fight wid it
JimmyNewton Posted March 22, 2005 Author Posted March 22, 2005 yeah, i'm still trying to lean out a little more. i out on mass while playing rugby. now i'm trying to get to about 190. "The wise and successsful will always be met with violent opposition by mediocre minds."
mindsedgeblade Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 About the best body type I've seen is my height and aound 200 lb. More muscular in the upper body than I am. This guy is very fast, good technique, and powerful. I borrow some of his moves, and adapt others from different body types. But I guess it depends on your general and personal style.I'm 6'2", and around 185 lb. I do mostly TKD, with boxing, ju jitsu mixed in, and I'm slowly putting on muscle. It seems to me that stockier poeple at my school prefer grappling, and taller people go for quicker ranged stuff. The best a man can hope foris, over the course of his lifetime,to change for the better.
JimmyNewton Posted March 23, 2005 Author Posted March 23, 2005 or maybe thees not a best body type at all and the person with the best technique has the advantage "The wise and successsful will always be met with violent opposition by mediocre minds."
Davison Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I agree with that post ^ Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them
pineapple Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 The best kickers that I've seen (not technically but due to reach) were tall people. The hardest hitters that I've seen were big guys. The quickest people that I've seen were the light guys. The people that I've met with the best throws (again not technically) were the strong guys.As I always say, there are exceptions! What works works
Shorinryu Sensei Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 personally..i'm 6'0 215..lift weights 4 days a week, run 5 days a week. not ripped, but stomach is flat.i think people assume big people are slow, but look how fast muhamid ali wasAhhhh...but Ali was fast for a heavyweight...slow if you compared him to a middleweight or fly weight. A lot of his skill came from his footwork, which was unusual for its day and is commonplace now. he moved around a lot, whereas the normal boxers of his day pretty much came straight at you, stood toe to toe and started swinging. As for what the ideal body type is for the MA's...there is none really. Specific systems tend to favor lean body types, such as TKD, whereas judo favors short, stocky/strong body types. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
