Whenever I see a random fight in school or whatever, it generally ends up being nothing but a grappling match. Though I'm confident in my abilities, I realize this is a weakness I have. I'm thinking of taking like a year of some sort of grappling MA, just to get some basic experience. Which would you suggest for a short term learning thing like that.

If your still in school and your school has wrestling I would start there. If not or on top of that Brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, or sambo would be my advice. what schools are availible to you?

Yeah, I agree with TJS- high school wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Sambo are good grappling styles to train in.

Where do you live? Perhaps we could help you find a school in the area.

I took a 2-hour Judo seminar at my Kenpo school by Mike Swain. It was really informative which makes me thing Judo would be a good idea. The problem with high school wrestling is that my school has the best wrestling team in the state and it's hard to get onto the team. Oh, and I live in Delaware.

If you can study w/ Mike Swain, then I would. He is unbelivable when it comes to judo.I have read a lot on him in the mags and he is a very acredited judoka. I think he was an olimpic coach and has also won medals in the olimpics for his judo talent. I remember reading blk belt mag in 1994 or 1995 and he was coach of the year. judo is a blast!

Why punch someone when their on the ground when you can just kick them

I can't actually study with him, he was just giving a seminar at my karate school a few months ago. I believe he actually trains and teaches in California or something.
